Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
The Career Pathways Handbook is your essential guide—think of it as the blueprint for your next four years and beyond! Choosing your classes isn't just about filling a schedule; it's about making powerful decisions that shape your future. The classes you select will have a huge impact on sparking your passion, supercharging your career readiness, boosting your class standing, and opening doors to college and career.
Your Essential Planning Checklist
It is crucial that you review this handbook carefully with your student before entry into freshman year, and every year thereafter. A four-year plan is necessary, and it must have a focus in mind: What truly excites your child? What are their natural talents that could lead to a good career choice? What standard of living, lifestyle, and work environment is most appealing? Will they attend college, technical college, enlist in the military, or prepare for a career right after graduation?
Note: These plans will likely change before graduation, but every student will complete an Academic and Career Plan (ACP) that will be updated and reviewed annually, per the Education for Employment Act (PI-26).
Need Guidance? We're Here to Help!
If you have questions or need advice, the place to begin is with your student’s school counselor. EHS provides two full-time school counselors: Mrs. Becky Rose works with students with last names A-K, and Mrs. Erin Springstead works with students with last names L-Z. If you have questions on a specific course, feel free to contact the instructor of that course.
Career Pathways Equivalency Options
Students have flexibility in meeting the Math and Science requirements. To fulfill one of the 3 required math credits, a student may take 1 credit from a Board approved math equivalency course such as Intro to Coding, Advanced Coding, Food Quantities and Measures, or Construction (Framing, Electrical, & Plumbing). Similarly, to fulfill one of the 3 required science credits, a student may take 1 credit from a Board approved science equivalency course such as Veterinary Science, Wildlife Ecology, Food Science and Processing, or Plant and Soil Science.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mark Coombs
High School Principal
